Dear Parents,
As a teacher, I implement a program called Positive Behavior Support (PBS) to help all students achieve important social and learning goals. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning.
The key to making this behavior plan work for your child is you! As a teacher, I believe good parent-teacher relationship is important! We are a team!!
How does it work?
Every student has an avatar on Classdojo. Each avatar has seven positive behaviors linked: best line behavior, helping others, on task, participating, persistence, teamwork, and working hard. We go over each of these words during the first week of school, model what they look like, and then use the words A LOT. They're big words for kindergarteners, but the more we use them in context, the more they will become part of their vocabulary. Every time an adult notices a student following one of our class rules, school rules, or showing one of the seven traits on Classdojo, they receive one point.
What happens when they earn 10 points, now that is a big deal! When it happens, I stop whatever is happening and shout, "___ just earned 10 points!" We all clap and cheer for that student. He or she immediately comes to our treasure box and is allowed to pick a reward of their choice!
If a student is caught making incorrect choices (using unkind words, being hurtful, not following directions, etc.) they will receive three warnings. If the behavior continues after three warnings, the student will be asked to fill out a reflection sheet while having a private discussion with the teacher. The reflection sheet will be sent home and one point will be taken away on Classdojo.
Please feel free to contact me with any further questions.
Classroom Rules
1. Follow directions quickly.
2. Raise your hand for permission to speak.
3. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat.
4. Make smart choices.
5. Keep your dear teacher happy! :)
Call me if you have any questions (863-499-1287).
Cheerfully,
Alyssa R. Scott
